Water Taste or Odor
If water has a taste or odor, find out how to correct the issue.
Before attempting to repair your dispenser, read and understand the entire InSinkErator safety and installation instructions listed below.
- Water taste or odor may be normal upon initial start-up.
1. If the filter has not been replaced recently, this may be the cause.
Be sure to replace the filter every 6 months.
2. If the dispenser is newly installed, check the water connections for use of plumbers putty or sealant.
Sealants do not need to be used and may affect the taste and odor of the water. Clean off the sealant, reattach the connections, and let the water run to refresh the water in the tank.
3. Check that the tank is connected to your home's cold water supply.
Generally, chlorine or contaminants are more noticeable in hot water. Connecting the tank to the hot water supply can exacerbate the taste or odor. Using a filter can eliminate any bad taste or odor.
Still Not Working?
If after following our troubleshooting solutions, your water still has a taste or odor, it may need service. If the problem with your dispenser is due to defects in materials or workmanship, InSinkErator may pay to have an authorized service center service the dispenser in your home at no charge to you.
